Bamford was a British manufacture of small industrial and farm engines, among other things, dating back to the 1870s. I am not sure if they are still around, but believe they may be but trading under a different name.

A customer who has used our services before sent a scan of a head gasket for one of Bamford’s model Z4 diesel engines from the 1930s. He liked our price and decided to order four of them. Because the head gasket was too large to fit entirely within a scanner frame the customer split it in two, and with the aid of some supplementary dimensions we were able to reconstruct that and create a pattern. Upon receiving the gaskets this is what the customer had to say:

The gasket looks great as I expected it would.
Pleasure to again be able to do business with you.

I will paste an image of the scan used to make a pattern, followed by an image of one of the gaskets we made, and a picture of a Z4 engine:

Prior to making the Rolls Royce Merlin rocker cover gaskets just profiled below, the same museum asked us to make a batch of copper/asbestos sandwich exhaust gasket for a German Fieseler Fi 156 Storch, pictured below. I will paste a link to a Wikipedia entry for that aircraft for those wishing to learn more:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fieseler_Fi_156

We were able to provide them with a quotation after they sent an image of the gasket with dimensions. They were happy with the quotation so they sent a couple of old gaskets to us via priority mail.

I should mention for our US customers that Priority Mail works very well, and there are several flat rate package or envelope sizes that are pretty reasonably priced. Packages can be traced via the web and usually arrive here within one week. OK, back to the gaskets. You can see our reproduction on the right, with the bore and bolt holes sealed per the original. We use 0.3mm copper sheet for these types of gaskets.

An aircraft museum in the USA sent a request to make 20 leftside and 20 rightside rocker cover gaskets for a Rolls Royce Merlin 1590V Mk35 engine. They sent some old gaskets along with a pattern for some changes to the outside of the gaskets. We offered three material choices along with spec sheets and the customer chose to have these die-cut using a material known as S-207 from Interface Solutions. The rocker cover gaskets differ just slightly between left and right, so we marked them accordingly as shown below the image of one of the bunches of gaskets.

A customer sent us an aluminum alloy rotor used on a small engine manufactured some years ago. He wanted us to duplicate the rotor, but make one change. As shown in the second image below, there was one rotor fin that was too close to a bolt hole, so he wanted us to move that fin about 2mm to the right. Apparently that tight location made installation a bit of a headache. We moved the rotor as you can see in the first image. We had a batch of 100 of these cast and machined. Here is what this customer said upon receiving two samples for evaluation:

…just received 2 fan rings, PERFECT

Here is an image of an old industrial engine made by Moteurs Bernard in France in the 1930s. The image was sent by the customer after we completed a gasket order for him. Below the first image is another image showing the ‘art deco’ radiator assembly:

The customer lives in Germany and has one or more of these interesting French engines from the 1930s that he is restoring. I will let him tell the story:

I bought this engine from a french guy who had an auction running on ebay for some other things. He saved it from scrap. It came together with a second engine of that type and both were partially seized and not running. I had to do quite a bit of work, but I got them both running again. The manufacturer is “Moteurs Bernard” and the type W2. This company still exists and produces modern small engines. The engines of this type were made in several sizes and were quite common in France and other countries in Europe during the 1930s. They were also made in a second factory called “C.L. Conord” ( this type as F2) which was overtaken by Bernard and even under license in Germany. At that time the design was quite sophisticated but after the war the more smaller high revving engines came into fashion. As far as I know production of these engines was stopped 1950. Now the special design of the “art deco” style makes them interesting for some enthusiasts.

Below you will find an image of the ‘art deco’ radiator:

To make the gaskets the customer sent a scan with dimensions drawn in. The graph paper backing allows us to check all the dimensions. We used this scan to produce the gaskets shown immediately below this image. Incidentally, if you are thinking of having us make some gaskets for you or want to obtain a quotation, you can find more info on making scans at www.gasketstogo.com/scans.htm.

These were copper sandwich style construction just like the originals, using a non-asbestos filler material supplied by Interface Solutions (USA) since the EU does not allow that.

Lanchester automobiles were an early English marque that at one time were renowned for their quality. According to the Wikipedia listing on these cars:

Lanchester Motor Company was a car manufacturer based at Armourer Mills, Montgomery Street Birmingham, England. It operated from 1895–1955. The company having merged with Daimler and thence becoming part of Jaguar, the rights to the Lanchester marque now lie with Tata Motors of India, which purchased Jaguar from the Ford Motor Company in March 2008.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanchester_Motor_Company

Here is a Lanchester advertisement from back in the day:

One of our regular customers sent us a drawing (shown below) and asked for a quotation for making some exhaust gaskets for a Lanchester, model unknown.

Working from the drawing, we created copper sandwich exhaust gaskets using metal-mesh composite non-asbestos inner material from Interface Solutions (USA), as shown below. The gasket is sitting on top of an actual size print-out of the drawing supplied by the customer. If you need copper sandwich gaskets like this or any other kind of gasket please contact us today via our web site (URL below image).

In the previous post to this one I described some springs we made for a customer who supplies parts and repairs for the old Saab 3 cylinder two stroke automobiles. This same customer also ordered 50 each (left and right) custom molded rubber blocks for use in rebuilding the motor mounts used on those models. We worked from the old motor mounts that he sent us. Pictured below are one of the motor mounts and the new rubber blocks we created from NBR (BunaN) rubber to a density suitable for use in motor mounts. In this case the complex shape of the metal portion of the mounts prevented us from supplying the complete assemblies in the quantities requested, but we can manufacture complete motor mount assemblies. Everything depends on the nature of the mount and the amount ordered. If you need something like this please do not hesitate to ask!

Complete motor mount assemblies as supplied by customer

We received an email with the image of a spring attached (see below), and the following details:

ID 1 5/16″
OD 1 31/32″
h 1 1/16″
wire thickness 5/16″

Quantity: 10

These springs fits on the front pulley or harmonic balancer of old 3 cylinder two stroke Saabs (pictured below), and according to our customer are often left out when rebuilt. The customer did not want the springs plated as he planned on painting them.

The customer ordered 10 springs, which we supplied as shown in the image below.

The customer was delighted with the springs and sent a picture of one of the springs painted in the red engine color found on those models, and another one showing a spring installed on the engine.

Offenhauser was an American racing engine manufacturer that was in business 50 years, from 1933 to 1983. The inspiration for the race winning ‘Offy’ engines was a 1913 Peugeot Grand Prix car. The engine came to feature twin overhead cams, four cylinders, and four valves per cylinder, and went on to power Indianapolis 500 winners an incredible 27 times. Smaller versions, such as the 110, were used to power midget racers. You can learn more about it on the Offenhauser Wikipedia entry and elsewhere on the web, it is a fascinating story.

This customer, pictured with one of these engines below, ordered enough gaskets to make 40 engine sets. There was no head gasket because these cars had no head gasket! That’s is why they could run with very high compression ratios without fear of head gasket failure.

We were supplied with tracings along with dimensions called out, and the type of material desired. For most of the gaskets we used a non-asbestos composite from Inteface Solutions called NI-2085, and all the gaskets were die cut. It was gratifying to hear the customer’s comment on receiving the gaskets:

“Gaskets arrived Mon. and were all beautiful. Thanks for an expert job.”

If you need gaskets for an Offenhauser 110 let me know and I will direct you to the customer.

The Moto Guzzi Falcone was an unusual Italian single cylinder motorcycle that had a long life span and several different iterations.

A customer contacted Gaskets-to-Go about making some somewhat unusual copper crush washers. Unusual because the spec called for a thin copper ring to be inserted inside the gasket material sandwich, so in effect there are three copper layers and two filler layers. The arrow in the close-up image below shows one of the inner copper layers. If you are in need of these gaskets for a Falcone let me know and I will put you in touch with the customer.
